A Brief Story of Takhti
Eternal Hero of Iran

In our country (Iran) great athletes who had moral characteristics and have done great deeds in addition of their physical power, are called Hero and Takhti is the eternal hero of Iran. Takhti was a great man and even at present many people who have known or even heard of him appreciate Takhti. Many people believe that a champion like Takhti is the first and the last. Golamreza Takhti was born in 1930 in south of Tehran (Capital of Iran) in a religious and poor family. He lost his father when he was a child. He started wrestling from Poolad club. At first when he participated in wrestling Championship he got nock out. But he had started his practices hardly until he became one of the members of National Team. He was participating in championships in 8th category, 87kg. Takhti was very popular in Iran and whenever he entered clubs, all of the spectators and athletes were clapping for him. He was treated with anger of Iran's former government because of his democratic manner and his opposition with aristocracy. He wanted the government to distribute treasures between common people equally. In 1979 he was died in Atlantic Hotel suspiciously. His shrine is in Ebne - Bavieh in the south of Tehran.

1951 Helsinki- Fenland World Wrestling Championship - Silver

1952 Helsinki- Fenland Olympic games - Silver

1954 Warsaw – Poland World Festival Championship - Silver

1956 Melbourne- Australia Olympic games - Gold

1958 Tokyo – Japan Asian Championship - Gold

1958 Sofija – Bulgaria World Championship - Silver

1959 Tehran- Iran World Championship - Gold

1960 Rome – Italy Olympic games - Silver

1961 Yokohama – Japan World Championship - Gold

1962 Tolido – U.S.A World Cup - Silver

 

Some Memoirs about Takhti

In 1961 a terrible earthquake occurred in west of Iran (Boein Zahra), many people were killed and many houses were demolished. Takhti got depressed deeply and he started to walk in one of the biggest streets of Tehran and requested people to assist victims’ families. Thousands of people donated their money and their other contributions and many other champions also followed him but governmental officials stopped them.

In Moscow winning against his opponent (The champion of wrestling) he said to his component’s mother: “I'm sorry about the result your son is a great wrestler.” Champion’s mother smiled and kissed his face.

Although it was a brief story of his life, but there are many things about him. His name, memory and deeds will last forever. He was, is and will be the great man of Iran.
