A total of 20 countries earned at least one ticket to the 2010 Youth Olympic Games after one day of competition of the two-day WTF World Qualification Tournament for the 1st Youth Olympic Games at the High Performance Sports Center of Baja California in Tijuana, Mexico on March 3, 2010.
Korea earned three tickets to the Youth Olympic Games to be held in August in Singapore, while nine countries won two tickets each to the Singapore event. The nine countries are Germany, Russia, Egypt, France, China, Mexico, Cuba, the United States, and Kazakhstan.
Ten countries garnered one ticket each to the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. They are Iran, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Thailand, Jordan, Colombia, Spain, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, and Canada.
A total of 385 athletes, including 216 males, from 96 countries are competing for tickets to Singapore for the Youth Olympic Games at the WTF World Qualification Tournament, which features five male and five female weight divisions.
Through this qualification tournament, a total of 30 male and 30 female athletes, the top six athletes per weight category, are qualified for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games.
A total of 100 athletes are to compete for top honors at the taekwondo competition of the Youth Olympic Games. Host Singapore automatically earns three male and three female tickets to Singapore, while the remaining 34 tickets will be decided upon through consultations among the International Olympic Committee, the National Olympic Committees and the World Taekwondo Federation.
On March 4, athletes will compete for another 30 tickets to Singapore in five weight categories: men’s -48kg, men’s -63kg, men’s +73, women’s -44kg and women’s -55kg.
