Iran, the United States and Korea grabbed one gold medal each on the third day of the 2009 WTF World Taekwondo Championships at the Ballerup Super Arena near Copenhagen, Denmark on Oct. 16, 2009.
In the men’s under 68kg category, Iran’s Mohammad Bagheri Motamed beat Mexico’s Idulio Islas to earn his country the gold medal.
The bronze in the division went to Senegal’s Balla Dieye and Turkey’s Servet Tazegul.
In the women’s under 53kg division, the United States’ Danielle Pelham brushed aside a stiff challenge from Thailand’s Sarita Phongsri to clinch the gold medal.
Guatemala’s Euda Carias Morales and Korea’s Eun-Kyung Kwon shared the bronze medal in the category.
Korea’s Hyo-seob Yeom outpointed Iran’s Reza Naderian to earn his country the first gold medal at the 2009 World Taekwondo Championships.
The bronze went to Spain’s Javier Marron Jimenez and Turkey’s Cem Ulugnuyan.
